Adele fans were disappointed when the singer announced she was no longer moving forward with her Las Vegas residency. Nevertheless, Adele recently told BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs that she stands by her decision to pull out of the agreement.
I definitely felt everyone’s disappointment and I was devastated and I was frightened about letting them down, and I thought I could pull it together and make it work and I couldn’t, and I stand by that decision.”
She added that the backlash she received from fans was “brutal” and she felt like a “shell of a person for a couple of months.” The criticism she received didn’t change her mind, however. Adele expressed that she didn’t want to put on a show that wasn’t up to her standards.
You can’t buy me, you can’t buy me for nothing. I’m not going to just do a show because I have to or because people are going to be let down or because we’re going to lose loads of money. I’m like, ‘the show’s not good enough.’”
As we previously reported, Adele took to Instagram to break the news and apologized to her fans for postponing her “Weekends With Adele” residency. The Vegas residency was set to begin Friday, Jan. 21 through mid-April.
We’ve tried absolutely everything that we can to put it together in time and for it to be good enough for you, but we’ve been absolutely destroyed by delivery delays and COVD. Half my crew, half my team is down with COVID–they still are–and it’s been impossible to finish the show. I can’t give you what I have right now, and I’m gutted. I’m gutted, and I’m sorry it’s so last-minute.”
