NYC Mayor Eric Adams Declares ‘State Of Emergency’ Over Illegal Migrant Buses

Democrat New York City Mayor Eric Adams declared a “state of emergency” Friday to manage the influx of illegal migrants bused from the southern border to the Big Apple.

Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott began busing illegal migrants to New York City in August and, since then, the city has received around 17,000 illegal migrants, Adams said. Adams’ declaration will allow city agencies to construct “humanitarian relief centers” to address the surge.

Adams said the city expects to spend at least $1 billion to support the illegal migrants by the end of the fiscal year and is in desperate need for help.

“Our social services and our values are being exploited by others for political gain. New Yorkers are angry, I am angry too. We have not asked for this. There was never any agreement to take on the job of supporting thousands of asylum seekers. This responsibility was simply handed to us without warning as buses began showing up,” Adams said.

U.S.-Mexico border authorities encountered over 2,000,000 migrants this fiscal year, surpassing previous records.

Adams asked the federal government to help by providing illegal migrants work permits and shelter in other cities across the country.

“We need help from the federal government, help from the state of New York,” Adams said. “New York City is doing our part and now others must step up and join us.”

Abbott’s office called Adams “an absolute hypocrite” for his decision in a statement to the Daily Caller News Foundation.

“In a city with a population of over 8 million, he’s claiming an emergency for just over 3,100 migrants being bused into his self-declared sanctuary city,” Abbott spokeswoman Renae Eze told the DCNF. “That’s not even 1% of the population of New York City.”

New Yorkers will also be asked to volunteer to support illegal migrants and homeless because city shelters and hotels are overwhelmed, Adams explained.

“We now have a situation where more people are arriving in New York City than we can immediately accommodate, including families with babies and young children. Once, the asylum seekers from today’s buses are provided shelter, we will surpass the highest number of people in recorded history in our city’s shelter system,” Adams said.

The White House didn’t respond to the DCNF’s request for comment.
