Today we learn some of the first changes since McIntosh Group, Inc. was acquired by Texas-based private equity firm, Highland Partners. Although McIntosh Group is mostly known for owning the iconic McIntosh Labs brand, they also handle worldwide distribution for Sonus faber, Pro-Ject, Rotel Electronics, Bassocontinuo and Sumiko Phono Cartridges. The U.S. distribution arm was named Sumiko Audio, while Fine Sounds was the monicker in other territories. Despite the name differences, both are part of McIntosh Group, Inc.

In order to simplify naming, McIntosh Group Inc. today announced a change in brand name of its U.S. Distributor, Sumiko Audio, to Fine Sounds Americas. The name change is a part of a rebranding effort to “reduce confusion with the Sumiko Phono Cartridges brand we distribute,” said Fine Sounds Americas Vice President and GM Steve Margerin.
With the name “Fine Sounds” widely known across Europe and Asia, consistent branding makes sense. Fine Sounds Americas aims to continue the positive development and progression of its brands by aligning its identity with Fine Sounds UK, Fine Sounds Benelux, and Fine Sounds China.
Fine Sounds Americas will operate as usual under the new name, owning U.S. distribution for Sonus faber, Pro-Ject, Rotel Electronics, Bassocontinuo and Sumiko Phono Cartridges brands. All invoicing, packaging, and communications will be rebranded in the coming months, the rebranding and name change will not impact any partner points of contact, shipping and billing addresses, tax identification, and additional invoicing information, which all remain the same at this time.
